As it is Tuesday, here is our new business book recommendation of the week!
“You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.”
Originally published in 1937, Think and Grow Rich is one of the first and most influential self-help, motivational books. According to its author Napoleon Hill, it can be used to help people succeed in all lines of work.
Based on Hill’s earlier work Law of Success, in Think and Grow Rich, he reflects on stories of Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and other millionaires of his generation in order to illustrate his principles. By studying each individual character, Hill further develops the 16 laws of success from his previous work, and introduces 13 more principles. So, Think and Grow Rich outlines both the steps you need to take and the ones you need to avoid on your path to success.
Despite its title, the book is not simply about getting rich. It actually focuses on personal growth. Napoleon Hill’s main point is that you need to have an aim in life and strive to achieve it: success comes to those who know what they want and who have a strong desire to achieve it. So, in order to be successful, one needs to find something they are passionate about – define their purpose, then create a plan of action and involve other people in order to achieve their goals.
All in all, the main idea of the book is the importance of desire – in order to get something, you need to want it first. To be more specific, according to Hill you need to have a “burning desire to be rich”. Believe in yourself and be persistent: define a plan and immediately act according to it; guard your mind against negative influences.
Napoleon Hill was an American author and one of the earliest such of the personal-success literature. Think and Grow Rich is his most famous book and one of the best-selling books of all time. His works examined the powers of personal belief and its role in success.
